Outline

I.      Introduction
i.      Why you will be writing about it.

For my project I will be discussing Ecological Intelligence.   Ecological Intelligence refers to our collective ability to understand the human impact on ecosystems and to act in ways that improve them.  Ecological Intelligence is a way to give consumers the ability to force organization to produce products in environmentally safe way.  This is a way to stop government restriction toward being environmentally safe.  It will provide producers an incentive to be environmentally aware because the job of the producer is providing consumer with what they want.

Three teen-aged girls are at a shopping mall looking for sunscreen. It’s an impulse purchase, and it has to be an all-natural choice. They think they’ve found what they’re looking for at one store, but on the way to the register one of the girls takes out her phone and swipes it by the bar code of the product they’ve selected. Moments later, as she’s pulling out a credit card at the register, her iPhone announces an incoming email. It’s a short message informing her that the item she is about to purchase contains compounds that are linked to the decimation of coral reefs. Moreover, the plastic container is difficult to recycle. Because her phone has pinpointed her location via GPS, she also learns that another store in the mall carries a “greener” sunscreen that has neither of those two problems. The girls leave the register and make a beeline for the other store.

ii.     What audiences you have chosen to present to.

I have chosen the following two audiences small business owners in Vermont and the breadwinners of each household.  I have chosen these two audiences because Ecological Intelligence cannot happen with out the support of the provider and consumer.  I will use a non-profit social marketing campaign to reach the breadwinners through Digital Marketing and I will develop a presentation that can be presented at different business conference to communicate to small business owners.

II.    What
i.      What’s happening?

In the world today the private sector is under great pressure to conduct business in an environmental safe way to obtain sustainability.  This is because consumers have shown the government that it is important to become environmental stable. Strict environment regulation telling the private sector what they can and cannot do was a result of this.

Sustainability is garnering ever-greater public attention and debate. The subject ranks high on the legislative agendas of most governments; media coverage of the topic has proliferated; and sustainability issues are of increasing concern to humankind.

III.  So what
i.      Why is this topic important

This is an important topic because Ecological Intelligence gives the consumer the power and not the government.   Economic regulations hinder the success of an economy.  The more regulation there is the less businesses are able to do things at a lower cost and become competitive on a global basis.  This is also an important topic because Ecological Intelligence is a road way to becoming more sustainable.

There’s no alternative to sustainable development.
Even so, many companies are convinced that the more environment-friendly they become, the more the effort will erode their competitiveness. They believe it will add to costs and will not deliver immediate financial benefits.

ii.     Why should people care?

Ecological Intelligence is a major issue that people should care about.  Ecological Intelligence provides people with the knowledge of health and environmental risks of a product.  It allows consumers to be more informed about what they are buying.

Here’s sobering news: any one of us, anywhere on the planet, lugs hundreds of industrial chemicals around in our bodies – and they are up to no good.

iii.   Why are the audiences are important to reach?

I have chosen the following two audiences small business owners in Vermont and the breadwinners of each household.  I have chosen these two audiences because Ecological Intelligence cannot happen with out the support of the provider and consumer.

IV.  Now what?
i.      What is being done?

ii.     What do you propose should be done?

Ecological Intelligence allows consumers to see what to environmental footprint is of the product.  This idea is very similar to how food producers have to provide ingredients and nutrition facts on the label of food.  This showed that people will read the label and buy product that have more nutritional value.  Forcing food producers to make healthier product.  Ecological intelligence can be used in the same way and I believe consumer will start to buy more products that are more environmentally friendly.  Forcing producers to produce their good in a more environmentally friendly way.

V.    Conclusion

VI.  Audience Communication

One communication I will produce is a non-profit social marketing campaign through digital marketing.   I will produce a Facebook, blogs, and forums to get the word out.  Blogs will give consumers an opportunity to add their opinions to this idea providing me with more ideas.  I feel this will reach a large number of consumers and will educate them on the important of buying environmentally friendly products.

Through seminars I plan to present my idea to small business executives.  I feel that this is a marketing opportunity for businesses to build brand loyalty.  I feel that businesses will like the idea of a “consumer choice regulation” rather than other regulation that put strict limits on what business can do.
